Zantedeschia
Named for Italian botanist Giovanni Zantedecshi, this genus contains twenty-eight species native to southern Africa. Zantedeschias produce large, showy flower spathes and are often grown both as ornamental plants and for cut flowers.
They are hardy plants—some species survive at very low winter temperatures—but must be grown as tender bulbs or houseplants in cooler areas, though most are grown in warmer areas. Common names include arum lily and calla lily.
